“This struggle over the decision whether to move to a foreign country or return to the country that represents one’s roots were tackled realistically but with a great sense of humor that reverberated well with the audience, reminding them of the small and large issues that prompt Palestinians to remain in their homeland.”

London Jenin is a bold and humorous theatrical performance exploring the conflicting desires of two Palestinian actors torn between staying in Britain or returning to Jenin. Created independently by Khawla Ibrahim, Faisal Abu Al-Haija, and Alaa Shehada, the play blends comedy and raw self-reflection to examine national identity, displacement, and the struggles of Palestinian youth. Through sharp dialogue, monologues, and role-switching, it mirrors the bittersweet tension between longing for home and seeking opportunity abroad. With minimal props and maximum emotional depth, London Jenin turns an immigration office in East London into a stage for existential reckoning.
